Dreaming of a White Christmas? Chanel’s Limited-Edition N°5 Brings Holiday Magic to Life

For those hoping for a classic white Christmas—and a touch of luxury under the tree—Chanel has introduced a new, limited-edition N°5 Eau de Parfum that’s as enchanting as it is iconic. Sylvie Legastelois, Chanel’s Head of Packaging & Graphic Design Creation, shares the inspiration behind this design, explaining that the bottle’s snowy look pays homage to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel and her classic aesthetic. “This natural, white silk dresses the bottle, which magically transforms it into a frosty work of art,” says Legastelois. “The delicacy and simplicity of this snow mantle immerses us in the Christmas universe as if in a fairy tale.”

From Heritage to Haute Craftsmanship

The enchanting silk detailing was inspired by a traditional silk cultivation technique from France’s Cévennes region, creating a unique textural element that makes each bottle feel like a rare piece of art. Chanel’s artisans applied the silk by hand, one layer at a time, to achieve the perfect gradient for the snow-like effect. “This meticulous work makes each bottle unique and precious,” Legastelois adds. “The greatest challenge was the time required to develop this innovative process, finding the right balance of silk proportions, the time needed for the application while ensuring the quality and durability of this garment.” This painstaking process balances beauty with durability.

Loved by style icons from Marilyn Monroe to Jackie Kennedy, and even accounting for a third of Chanel’s annual revenue, N°5 embodies the heritage and elegance of the house. “The N°5 perfume is the backbone of our house. It alone embodies all the values of Chanel,” says Legastelois. “Since 1921, the year of its creation, ahead of its time, it has never ceased to surprise us.”
