Expressions Parfumées Unveils Breakthrough Technology for Longer-Lasting Fragrances

Grasse-based perfume house Expressions Parfumées has introduced Longscent, a patented technology that promises to revolutionize fragrance longevity by enhancing the durability of scents across all stages of the olfactory pyramid. The innovation, patented in July 2024, addresses growing consumer demands for more intense and longer-lasting fragrances.
According to Marie-Eugénie Bouge, Marketing and Communications Director at Expressions Parfumées, the development was driven by evolving global market needs. "The globalization of the fragrance industry and the emergence of new markets, particularly in Asia, are sometimes leading to conflicting needs," she explains. "Asian consumers appreciate the notion of freshness and crystalline fragrances, but they also want them to be long-lasting, which can be contradictory."
The technology's breakthrough lies in its ability to increase fragrance intensity by up to 30% at various evaporation stages. Testing has demonstrated remarkable results, with citrus notes remaining perceptible for several hours and base notes lasting beyond 72 hours. This represents a significant advancement in fragrance performance, particularly for traditionally volatile scent profiles.
Jennifer Buzzi, Head of Development and Innovation, reveals that the technology utilizes a combination of synthetic and natural raw materials with film-forming properties. "These form a film on the skin or fabric, a kind of shield that limits the evaporation of the fragrances without trapping the top notes," she explains. This innovative approach allows for better preservation of the fragrance's intended character throughout its wear time.
The development process involved close collaboration with the company's perfumers, who had to adapt their creative approach to accommodate new evaporation patterns. The technology has demonstrated versatility across different fragrance families, offering enhanced persistence in traditionally challenging categories like citrus and floral notes, while adding sophistication to woody and amber accords.
A key benefit of Longscent is its ability to maintain fragrance identity from initial application through extended wear. This consistency addresses a common consumer pain point where fragrances can smell different at the point of sale compared to their evolution on the skin.
The innovation comes at a time when the global fragrance market is seeing increased demand for long-lasting scents. Expressions Parfumées plans to launch the technology in Europe this year, with strong interest already emerging from Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
This development represents a significant step forward in fragrance technology, offering a solution that balances the seemingly contradictory demands of freshness and longevity while maintaining the sophisticated character of fine fragrances.
