Gabe Gordon Launches First Fragrance Inspired by His SS25 Collection, "Horseplay"
Dec. 13, 2024 | Linda M. Sanabria
Gabe Gordon, the New York City-based designer known for his avant-garde, narrative-driven fashion, is entering the world of fragrance with his debut perfume, Horseplay. This fragrance, which was unveiled alongside his Spring/Summer 2025 collection at New York Fashion Week, draws inspiration from the themes of American suburbia, nostalgic adolescence, and homoerotic undertones. Collaborating with Australian perfumer Callum Mitchell, founder of Perdristât, Gordon has created a fragrance that captures the essence of his SS25 runway show—a blend of '80s influences and dream-like sensibilities.
In a press release, Gordon explained that his exploration of memory, time, and decay in textiles has always been central to his work. The fragrance Horseplay is an olfactory translation of his collection, which blends the carefree imagery of suburban life with more intense, dark themes of masculinity and fantasy.
The perfume itself is a unique blend of earthy hay, sensual rose, rugged leather, and woody vetiver. These notes combine to evoke a balance of floral sweetness and rustic, raw elements, perfectly capturing the mood of Gordon’s narrative-driven designs. According to Mitchell, this fragrance reflects the show’s core aesthetics, transporting the wearer to a "nightmarish landscape" where the innocence of youth collides with the complexity of emerging adulthood.
Available for purchase on the Gabe Gordon website, the Horseplay Eau de Parfum is priced at $48 USD. As Gordon makes his debut in the fragrance industry, this new release offers a fresh perspective on how fashion and scent can unite to tell powerful stories.
