IFF Introduces a New Duo to Their Paris Perfume Team

In a bold move to enhance its artistry, International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) has brought on two renowned perfumers—Alexandra Carlin and Alex Lee—to join its prestigious fine fragrance division in Paris. The addition of Carlin as Senior Fine Fragrance Perfumer and Lee as Fine Fragrance Perfumer is set to bring new dimensions of creativity to IFF’s global team.

About Carlin and Her Literary Muse

For Paris-born Alexandra Carlin, the transition from a literary path to a perfumery career was driven by an unexpected spark: a radio interview with a perfumer. From that moment on, Carlin’s passion shifted, leading her to study the science and art of fragrance at the esteemed ISIPCA in France. Guided by legendary perfumer Maurice Roucel, she embraced an experimental approach to ingredient selection, viewing every new fragrance project as a blank canvas for emotional storytelling.

Some of her most notable works, including Diptyque Kyoto, BDK Velvet Tonka, and Amouage Honour Woman, show Carlin’s ability to capture profound emotions through scent. “IFF is a unique fragrance house that truly [views] perfumers as artists,” said Carlin. “I’m thrilled to join IFF.”

About Lee’s Unlikely Journey to Perfumery

Alex Lee’s fascination with scent began with something simple yet universally familiar—the aroma of freshly shampooed hair. What might seem trivial to most sparked a lifelong curiosity for Lee, who originally pursued pre-med studies in California before realizing his true passion for fragrance. Determined to understand the intricacies of scent, he honed his craft at the prestigious Grasse Institute of Perfumery and ISIPCA.

Now known for his bold, ingredient-forward approach, Lee has created standout fragrances such as Dolce & Gabbana’s Velvet Infusion, Chloé l’Atelier des Fleurs Nuit d’Oranger, and Salvatore Ferragamo’s Rinascimento. “[Joining IFF] marks a significant milestone in my career,” said Lee. “I’m honored to work with such a fantastic, creative team and explore an extensive palette of ingredients.”

A New Chapter in Artistic Freedom at IFF

For IFF, Carlin and Lee are perfumers that represent a new era of creative expression and collaboration. “We’re excited for the talent and creative energy that Alexandra and Alex will bring to IFF Scent,” shared Sabrya Meflah, president of Fine Fragrance at IFF. Meflah emphasized that Carlin’s talent for translating emotion into fragrance, paired with Lee’s intuitive and curiosity-driven style, will enrich the company’s artistic pursuits and inspire further innovation.

Both perfumers are drawn to IFF’s commitment to artistic freedom and its dedication to pushing the boundaries of fragrance creation. With Carlin and Lee now part of IFF’s global team, the company is poised to continue delivering captivating scents that resonate worldwide.
