Scoop du Parfum: Salt & Straw's Sweet New Scent
Feb. 10, 2025 · Rebecca Robin
In a delicious twist on Valentine's Day romance, Portland's ice cream maverick Salt & Straw has decided that merely eating chocolate isn't enough - now you can wear it too. The brand's latest creation, "Dipped in Chocolate" perfume, transforms the classic heart-shaped box of chocolates into a wearable fragrance that promises to make date night considerably more appetizing.
Partnering with fellow Portland perfumery Imaginary Authors, Salt & Straw has crafted a scent that reads like a dessert menu: chocolate, cardamom, and vanilla cream, grounded by sophisticated notes of sandalwood and benzoin Sumatra. At $46 for a 14mL bottle, it's a more lasting alternative to their scoops - though perhaps equally tempting.
The perfume launch coincides with Salt & Straw's February Chocolatier's Series, featuring collaborations with artisanal chocolate makers across the country. The lineup includes intriguing creations like a Hazelnut Chocolate Cookies and Cream made with local Cloudforest chocolate, and a Milk Chocolate Fudge with Candied Macadamia Nut inspired by New York's Stick with Me Sweets.
For those who want to fully commit to the chocolate experience, the brand is also rolling out Brownie Waffle Cones through February 27. And in a nod to cupid, they're offering a buy-one-get-one-free scoop deal on Valentine's Day itself.
This isn't Salt & Straw's first foray into fragrance - they previously bottled the essence of their ice cream shops in 2020 with "A Whiff of Waffle Cone." But this chocolate-forward scent seems particularly calculated to turn a casual after-dinner stroll into a detour to their nearest scoop shop.
The question remains: will wearing your dessert become the next big thing in romance? Salt & Straw is betting that in matters of love and ice cream, the nose knows best.
